My Story
I know this transition from the inside
How a grandmother’s move inspired a business dedicated to making senior living spaces feel like home.
Meet the founder
Hi, I’m Alexia
I grew up in Cape Town, South Africa, and now call San Diego home, so I know a thing or two about moving. I’ve spent my career as a founder and creative director, starting Vuka Sparkling Energy Drinks eighteen years ago and leading creative teams for companies and nonprofits.
My home is a little Wunderkammer, full of art, curiosities and wonders that each carry a story. When I help someone choose what comes with them, I’m listening for those stories.

The downsizing
From 10,000 square feet to 650
I downsized my own home from 10,000 square feet to 650. I know the weight of deciding what comes with you, and the relief when a small space finally feels like yours.
The lesson stayed with me: size doesn’t decide how warm a room feels. Intention does.

The three pigs that made it to Roslyn’s windowsill.
The image that never left
Three small ceramic pigs
The real inspiration was my grandmother, Roslyn. She lived to 104, vibrant and creative to the end, and made beautiful spaces wherever she lived.
When she moved into a senior community, I visited her room and found remnants: furniture that didn’t quite fit, a dresser of photographs, three ceramic pigs on the windowsill. She was happy and well cared for, but the room didn’t feel like her.
“A woman who had lived so fully was surrounded by so little of what made her her. That image never left me.”
The realization
This happens to thousands of people every year
Every year, thousands of people leave homes of decades for rooms that feel temporary, more waiting room than home.
Moving companies focus on logistics. Interior designers start from scratch. Senior move managers handle coordination. Few had made the emotional and aesthetic transformation of arrival their primary, dedicated work.
That gap became Rose’s Room.
For every Roslyn
Moving is grief and possibility at once. My job is to honor both, so you arrive somewhere warm, beautiful and full of what you love.
What I believe
My values
Every person matters
No templates. Each room is designed for one person and their story.
Design is emotional
A personal space changes how someone feels about the move and this new chapter.
Quality over scale
One focus, done beautifully, rather than many things done adequately.
Partnership, not competition
I work alongside move managers, community directors and other professionals who care about this as much as I do.
My expertise
Beautiful, and built for this stage of life
I’ve always loved interiors, and living small taught me how to make a modest room feel generous, personal and calm.
I’ve completed CAPS I, Marketing & Communicating with the Aging-in-Place Client, the first course toward the Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist designation, and I’m continuing with the program. It covers accessibility, safety and lighting for older adults, so every room works as well as it looks.

What I bring
A name with a story
Rose’s Room is named for my granny Roslyn. Every room I make is for someone like her.
A designer’s eye
Decades of creative direction, brought to one room at a time.
Gentleness and patience
Leaving a home is a lot. I go at your pace and make room for the memories.
Close to home
I live in San Diego and know the communities here and the people who run them.
I’d love to hear your story
Every move starts with the person making it. Tell me a little about them, and what home means to them.
Say hello
