About Rose's Room
What exactly does Rose's Room do?
Rose's Room transforms a new retirement community or assisted living apartment into a personal, beautiful space that feels like home. I use the client's own belongings plus carefully sourced furniture, art, and accessories to create a finished, styled space before move-in day. I also help with downsizing, deciding together what to bring, and offer end-to-end support from the decision to move through a 30-day follow-up visit.
Who is Rose's Room for?
Rose's Room serves older adults moving into retirement communities or assisted living facilities. I work with clients directly, as well as with their adult children, families, and professional partners like move managers, elder law attorneys, geriatric care managers, and community directors. If someone you know is moving into a senior community and wants their new space to reflect who they are, Rose's Room is for them.
I'm helping my parent move. Can I be the one to reach out?
Absolutely. Very often it's a son, daughter or other family member who gets in touch first, and I'm glad to start with you. I'll make sure the person who's moving is part of the conversation as soon as they're ready, because it's their home and their choices that matter most. This is a hard season for everyone, and you don't need to have it all figured out before we talk.
Why is Rose's Room different from a moving company or interior designer?
Moving companies focus on logistics and getting boxes from point A to point B. Interior designers start from scratch and design spaces for anyone. Rose's Room is specialized: I focus exclusively on helping seniors transition into smaller spaces using their own belongings. Rose's Room is not a moving company. I'm the person who arrives after the boxes are unpacked to transform the space into a real home. I understand the emotional and practical realities of moving in later life, and my entire business is built around that single purpose.
Why is the business named Rose's Room?
Rose's Room is named after my grandmother, Roslyn, who lived to 104. When she moved into a senior community, I visited her room and saw how little of her was reflected in it. That image inspired this entire business. Every project I do is for every Roslyn: every person who deserves to arrive somewhere that feels like home.
The Services
What is The Edit?
The Edit is my downsizing service, a set fee for the whole process. I work room by room with the client and their family, helping decide what to bring to the new space, what to let go of, and what to pass on to others. I honor the stories behind things and help distinguish between what's truly loved and what's simply familiar. I also provide trusted vendor referrals for estate sales, consignment stores, and donation organizations so items are handled with care and dignity.
What is The Arrival?
The Arrival is my signature move-in design service. I transform a new retirement community apartment or assisted living suite into a personal, beautiful, and complete space. Using the client's own belongings plus carefully sourced furniture, art, lighting, textiles, and accessories, I handle everything: space planning, furniture arrangement, styling, gallery walls, and finishing touches. On move-in day, the client arrives to a finished room that already feels like theirs. This is the emotional heart of what I do.
What is The Full Journey?
The Full Journey is my most comprehensive service. I partner with the client from the moment they decide to move through move-in day and beyond. It combines The Edit and The Arrival with move coordination oversight, vendor management, and a 30-day follow-up visit to refine the space once they've lived in it. Many small adjustments become apparent after living in a space day to day, and that follow-up ensures the room continues to feel like home.
Can I use just one service, or do I have to buy all three?
You can purchase any service individually. Many clients choose just The Arrival if they've already done the downsizing themselves. Others choose just The Edit if they want help deciding what to bring but will handle the decorating on their own. The Full Journey is the right fit if you'd like end-to-end partnership and support throughout the entire transition.
Pricing & Payment
How much does Rose's Room cost?
Pricing depends on which service you choose and the scope of work. The Edit ranges from $900 to $1,800. The Arrival ranges from $2,200 to $4,000. The Full Journey ranges from $4,200 to $7,500. I start with a conversation to understand your situation, then share a written proposal with one flat fee for the work, so you know the full amount before anything begins.
Why is pricing project-based instead of hourly?
Moving is stressful enough. With one agreed fee, you don't have to watch the clock or wonder whether a slow day will cost more. You can simply focus on the move.
What if I need furniture or other pieces sourced?
I offer shopping and sourcing as an add-on service. If your new space needs additional furniture, artwork, or accessories, I can source and purchase items on your behalf. This is charged separately at $175 per hour or a 20% markup on the items purchased, depending on the scope.
Is there a fee to get started?
Every project starts the same way. First, a free 30-minute consultation call by phone or video. Then, if it feels right, a home visit to see the current home, talk through the move and plan the project in detail. The visit is $150 an hour with a two-hour minimum, and if you go ahead with The Edit, The Arrival or The Full Journey within 30 days, it is credited toward your project.
The Process
How does the process work from start to finish?
It starts with a free 30-minute consultation call so I can get to know you and what you're hoping for. If you want to move forward, I schedule a home visit to see the current home, take measurements, and get to know your story and style. I then create a written proposal with my recommendation and flat-fee price. Once you approve, I survey your new space, create a floor plan, source any needed items, and coordinate logistics. On move-in day or the next day, I install everything. Finally, I schedule a 30-day follow-up visit to refine anything that needs adjusting. It's a clear, step-by-step process.
How long does the whole process take?
It depends on the scope, but typically from the first home visit to move-in day is 4 to 8 weeks. If you choose just The Arrival and have already done the downsizing, the timeline can be shorter. If you choose The Full Journey with extensive downsizing, it may take longer. I work at the pace that feels right for you and your family.
What happens on move-in day?
On move-in day or the day after (coordinated with the movers and your schedule), I arrive and set up the entire space. I arrange furniture, hang artwork, style shelves and surfaces, set up the kitchen and bathroom, arrange lighting, and complete every finishing touch. The client should arrive to find a finished, beautiful room that already feels like home. This moment, the reveal, is the heart of everything I do.
Can you work with my move manager?
Absolutely. I'm glad to partner with senior move managers. They handle the logistics; I handle the design and styling. This partnership creates a seamless experience for the client. If you're working with a move manager, let me know and I'll coordinate closely with them.
What if I don't know yet what I want my new space to look like?
That's completely normal. Part of my job is to listen to your story, understand what matters to you, and translate that into a space. I ask questions about your life, your preferences, the things you love, and the atmosphere you want to create. From there, I design a space that reflects who you are. You don't need to have it all figured out before you call me.
Service Area & Logistics
Where do you serve?
Rose's Room currently serves San Diego, Orange County, Los Angeles, and Pasadena. If you're in one of these areas and moving into a senior community, I'd love to talk with you. If you're outside these areas but interested in my services, please reach out and we can discuss possibilities.
Do you work with specific retirement communities?
I work with clients moving into any senior living community, including independent living, assisted living, continuing care retirement communities, and memory care facilities. If your community doesn't know about me yet, I'd be happy to introduce myself to the director and staff.
How much space can you work with?
I specialize in small spaces, typically 300-600 square feet. This is exactly the size of most retirement community apartments and assisted living suites. Small spaces require thoughtful planning and creativity to maximize function and beauty. This is my expertise.
What if my belongings don't fit in the new space?
This is very common. Moving from a 1,500-3,500 square foot home into 300-600 square feet means making hard choices. That's what The Edit is for. I help you decide what truly matters and what can go. I also work with storage companies and family members to identify pieces that can be stored elsewhere or passed along. My goal is to bring the things that matter most and let everything else go gracefully.
For Professional Partners
How can my community work with Rose's Room?
If you're a retirement community director, I can discuss how to introduce Rose's Room as a resource for your residents. Communities can refer my services to incoming residents and families as a way to make the transition smoother and the new space more beautiful. I can also conduct workshops or information sessions at your community.
I'm a senior move manager. Can we partner?
Yes. I'm glad to partner with senior move managers across Southern California. You handle the logistics; I handle the design and styling. This creates a seamless experience for clients. I can discuss referral partnerships and how to coordinate on projects. Reach out to [email protected] to discuss partnership opportunities.
I'm an elder law attorney/geriatric care manager. Can you be a referral resource?
Absolutely. Attorneys and care managers see clients at the exact moment they need me, when they're deciding about moving. I'd love to be a trusted referral. Reach out to [email protected] and let's talk about how we can work together to serve your clients.
Getting Started
How do I get started?
Start by getting in touch. You can book one through my contact page or by emailing [email protected]. I'll set up a 30-minute call to hear about your situation, answer your questions, and talk through whether Rose's Room is right for you.
What should I prepare before the consultation call?
You don't need to prepare anything. If you have any photos of your current home or things that matter to you, feel free to have those handy to share. If you know the dimensions of your new space or have photos of it, that's helpful but not required. Mostly I just want to listen and learn about you.
Can my family be part of the process?
Yes. In fact, I love working with whole families. Having adult children involved can help align everyone on the process, reduce conflict about what to bring, and create shared understanding. You can include them in calls, meetings, and the entire process.
Can I see examples of your work?
Yes. I share before-and-after photos of my projects on Instagram and Pinterest at @rosesroom, and I'm happy to walk you through my work when we talk.
